Apple - The one God gave, not Jobs!

We know Apples are a little overrated but only for all good reasons. The most sold fruit in the whole wide world - Apples are one of the most popular and loved fruit globally. Apples are mostly eaten raw but have various applications in desserts, salads, ciders and gourmet cooking.

It won’t be a hyperbole to say if Apple Inc has surpassed the popularity of Apple fruit. Even Google’s organic search shows Apple’s swanky products first instead of the nature’s product – the fruit itself. Well, there is no true comparison between the two ‘Apples’ but one thing is sure that natural products or fruits, and more specifically Apple are underrated.

In India, we do not care what kind of Apple we are eating. In fact, we don’t really know if there are varieties of Apples available other than Kashmir, Kinnaur or Shimla and Red Delicious. But there are more than 7 varieties available throughout the year. Some famous ones are Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Golden, Pink Lady and Rose. All the different varieties carry characteristics from where they are produced which is evident in their difference in taste. Some are sweet, some tarty but all our healthy!

We all are familiar with the old Welsh proverb – “An Apple a day keeps the doctor away” but what makes it so special? Maybe it is about how good all the Fiber is for the heart, or how eating an Apple makes us feel fuller, thus helping in weight loss, or how an Apple a day prevents our chance of having type 2 diabetes by 28%. There are numerous such reasons which proves the point of the heavy Welsh proverb (Well, not literally).

Apples are easily included in our food nowadays if not eaten raw. Most popular products include – Apple Juice, Apple Cider Vinegar, Apple Sauce or Apple Ale. Moreover it is widely cooked into famous delicacies like – Apple Pie, Apple Crumble, Apple Tart, Apple Cobbler, Apple & Pecan Cake and many more.
